Two races of bison are recognized: Plains Buffalo and Wood Buffalo of Canada. Their number was reduced to 750 in 1890. They were then protected and now number about 80,000. Bison live only in parks and reserves.

How to Work with Earth Friends Wildlife Foundation

All proposals are accepted by invitation only. If you would like to present your organization to us, you may contact us by email lee@earthfriends.com to meet over lunch or dinner in Arizona (Nov. through April) or Wyoming (May through October).

All organizations start out with small grants and build as the relationship builds. Generally a starting grant is $3,000.

All Earth Friends grants are Challenge grants. Our grants require the recipient to develop and execute a fundraising capacity-building program. We are looking for a 10:1 return on investment.

CHALLENGE GRANTS CAN BE USED FOR YOUR OWN PURPOSES TO RAISE NEW MONEY

Our challenge grant can be used to raise new money from your board, from membership, from foundations. Funds raised can go for your selected purposes - they are “unrestricted funds.” Our grant is used for marketing and fundraising purposes only.

We would appreciate as much logo and name recognition as possible as a supporting partner in your publications: press releases, magazines, newsletters, and website. In this way we can help “plant the flag” for other funders.

THE WAY TO BUILD OUR RELATIONSHIP IS:

  1. A minimum of two in-person meetings per year (WY – Sept/Oct and May/June; AZ – Nov/Dec and Mar/April);
  2. Two written updates per year – using our update form, due June 30 and Dec. 30;
  3. Email any news you think we should know about;
  4. We should be listed as members of your organization and receive all regular publications and information you distribute to members;
  5. We encourage you to consider membership in Earth Friends as a gesture of reciprocity;
  6. Use the logo, pictures, rfp, update, letter of agreement documents that you can download from our website. You must be registered to access these documents. Register here.

Except for extremely time-sensitive situations, all communication should be done through email.
